Floyd joined Lorraine’s family April of last year. Lorraine being a former owner of Canadian horses was very quickly introduced the joys of palomino ownership as Floyd spent a muddy couple weeks in quarantine at the Edmonton Garrison Saddle Club. And no horse loves to get dirty as much as the light colored ones!
Lorraine sent Floyd to a trainer for a month after getting him to work on some skills that would better suit her riding. Floyd was an all around kids ranch horse in his previous life, where Lorraine is involved in working equitation. It was a loooong month without a horse. What on earth does a horsewoman do without a horse? Suggestions were made to clean her house, and say ‘hi’ to her husband Murray!
Everything was going great with Floyd until he started showing symptoms of allergies to his environment; grass, hay, even shavings eventually. Lorraine had to move Floyd to a full board situation at Windhaven Equestrian that turned out to be a wonderful situation for them both. Floyd’s allergies could be managed and Lorraine gained a wonderful new coach in Sharon Merkel-Beattie.
Windhaven Equestrian is located in Sturgeon County, just minutes outside St. Albert Alberta, offering indoor and outdoor board, including amenities such as an indoor and outdoor arena. It is owned and operated by Sharon and her husband Colin. Sharon is a certified Equine Canada dressage coach.
